Planning Permission Granted for Ireland’s Largest Single Wind Turbine Development

An Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission for the largest single wind turbine development to date in the country. The planning application together with the accompanying Environmental Report was prepared by Entrust Ltd. a renewable energy specialist planning and environmental consultancy which submitted the planning application on behalf of the developer, Biogas Environmental Tipperary East Ltd.

The application sought permission for the construction of a single large scale wind turbine development and all associated infrastructure comprising of a maximum overall blade tip height of up to 126.5m; upgrading of existing and provision of new internal access roads (including the upgrading of site access junction); an electricity sub-station with control room and associated equipment; Underground electricity connection cabling; temporary construction compound; and all ancillary site works at Ballincurry, Killenaule, Co. Tipperary.

The recently consented turbine will have a capacity of up to 3MW.  Entrust Ltd. acted as the lead planning consultant for the application, which was lodged in July 2013.   The Environmental Report project management included co-ordination of geotechnical, hydrological, archaeological, ecological, traffic and civil design sub-consultants, with all other Environmental Report sections being completed in-house.   Specialist works undertaken in-house include detailed constraints mapping, noise and shadow flicker assessments and a landscape and visual impact assessment.
